| Speaker Fix (the hum) for HP 1080p TV models MD6580n and MD5880n |
|
Edit Insert: May 11, 2006. HP arrived at my house and repaired my speaker hum with the addition of a grounding wire from the sound board to the chassis. The repair was a success, and I no longer have a speaker hum. Click here to see photos of the HP authorized repair |

It is suggested you call HP Technical Support to discuss your situation, and schedule a visit to repair your television. I talked with HP Technical Service today (April 7, 2006), and convinced them to set up an appointment to repair my TV, however, the HP representative did state that only TV's with excessive speaker hum will be repaired. Incredible as it may seem after spending thousands of dollars on this TV, I had to justify a repair by holding up my telephone to the TV speaker from a distance of several feet to convince HP that I deserved the repair. In the event the authorized repair by HP takes longer than expected, or you are unable to convince HP you are deserving of the repair (unlikely), or you are just electronically adventurous, there is an alternative. You may download the file below that will outline three different methods to fix the speaker hum yourself. Credit, and great deal of gratitude goes to the poster Darkonus from AVS Forums (HP DLP 1080p Owners Thread). This PDF document was prepared before it was known HP would finally deliver a repair.
