The popularity of the police
feed has forced some changes in the way the audio is delivered. The
demands on bandwidth usage have grown to the point where I would have
been unable to allow free access to the feed, as my internet provider
has instituted limits on bandwidth usage. The more bandwidth you need,
the more you pay.
Anyway, access to my server is
no longer possible as it has been in the past. The audio feed will now
be delivered as a relay from a server maintained by
RadioReference.com, a
organization devoted to all things broadcast from an antenna.
This is a win win for
everyone, and the feed is still free. I now simply stream to one user (RadioReference.com) and
require very little bandwidth to maintain the Police feed. There are
definite advantages. I had limits to the number of users allowed at
any one time. This has been eliminated. I had time limits on how long a
connection would last. This has been eliminated as well.
To connect to the feed simply
click on the links from the menu above. Many people seem to listen from
this page so they can see all the police codes
and references as they listen to the feed. This all still works as before, and is available from the
menu bar above.
You may also browse to the RadioReference audio feed area directly.
Here is
the link for the Waterloo Regional Police. From this page there is
the additional option to choose the type of stream (Winamp, iTunes etc).
There is also an archive of the feed, but I believe there may be a
charge for this. Not sure. There are also other feeds that may be of
interest. Here’s the link to the
top 50
scanner feeds available in North America. Any problems just
email
me.
